November 12 & 19 - Scouting for Food
Our annual community service project was HUGELY successful despite the tough economic times. On Satruday November 12, scouts went out into their neighborhoods to hang door knockers which informed the public about the food drive. On Saturday, November 19 the scouts went back into the neighborrhoods and collected four pickup trucks of food which weighed in at 4214 pounds that was donated to the Masters House a home for men who are working through difficult times in their lives.
November 1, 2011 - Troop 101's newest Eagle Scouts
Congratulations to Tyler Myers for the successful completition of his Eagle Board on Tuesday November 1, 2011. Tyler will be Troop 101's 105th Eagle Scout. Look for Tyler's Eagle Ceremony in the Spring of 2012. Congratulations Tyler!

October 9, 2011 - NYLT
Congratulations to Max B. for the successful completion of NYLT training. Max participated in the traditional NYLT course that required 3 weekends of leadership training at Camp Bud Schiele.
Also to be congratulated is NYLT staff member David P. David was the NYLT traditional course troop guide. NYLT staff put in a tremendous amount of time developing their presentations begining as early as February attending up to 6 weekends of staff development outings before the 3 weekends of the NYLT course. Staff members are to be commended for the time, dedication and effort they put in the this years NYLT course.

Congratulations to Jacob Richards and Brandon Joyce for the successful completition of their Eagle Board on Tuesday September 6, 2011. Jacob will be Troop 101's 103nd Eagle Scout and Brandon will be Troop 101's 104th Eagle Scout. Jacob's Eagle Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 7, 2011. Brandon's Eagle Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2011. Congratulations Jacob & Brandon!
July 2, 2011 - Summer Camp Troop 101 came home from a week of summer camp VICTORIOUS as we claimed the title "Best of Bud Schiele" for the third year in a row! We also won the Spirit Stick and the Clean Campsite award. In the Grand Ole Adventure we won 8 ribbons; one first place, 6 second place and one third place ribbon in the summer camp competitions.

Troop Information
We have a few upcoming events of importance in the next few weeks...
Freeze Out, 1/6/12- 1/8/12 Freeze Out is an annual event we do every January. This outing is one of the most popular outings of the year for the scouts and leaders because we have the opportunity to shoot rifles and shotguns at Camp Bud Schiele. We will be staying at the Staff Cabins for this outing which is a first for the troop. Scouts will be competing in patrol cooking competitions as well as the always popular dutch oven desert cooking competition. Scouts will also work on the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. Freeze Out Gear List
Winterplace WV, 1/21/12- 1/22/12 Winterplace WV is our annual destination for snow skiing. This is always a big time for scouts and adult leaders. We will travel to Winterplace on Saturday, January 21. Upon arrival we will check in, get our gear and then proceed to the Mountain House a restaurant by day and our housing for the night. The Mountain House typically houses 150 people and provides floor space, an air matress and breakfast the next morning. After breakfast we will hit the slopes for a full day of skiing. Winterplace Gear List
Merit Badge College, 2/5, 2/12 & 2/26/12 The Battleground District is hosting the twelfth "Merit Badge College" for all Boy Scouts of Battleground District on Sunday February 5, February 12 and February 26, 2012, 2:00PM-5:00PM at Gardner Webb University in the auditorium of Lindsay Hall on the 3rd floor. Cost for the event will be $15.00 and includes the two merit badge books and a patch.
Each Scout will be assigned two merit badge courses. To assist in scheduling and arranging the class schedule, please have the scouts choose 4 merit badges from the list. We will try to schedule the 1st and 2nd choices, however the 3rd and 4th choices may be needed if classes fill up or a counselor is not available.
Most merit badges cannot be completed without some pre-work and/or additional work at home between Sundays. It is the responsibility of each scout receiving an incomplete blue card to contact his merit badge counselor or to complete it in the Troop under the guidance and permission of his Scoutmaster.
January 23, 2012 is your last opportunity to sign up for Merit Badge College. Class selections must be turned in to the scoutmaster.

Merit Badge College Information
Merit Badge University, 2/25/12 The Council Training Team and the Eswau Huppeday Lodge would like to cordially invite you to participate in the 2012 Merit Badge University to be held on Saturday, February 25th, 2012.This highly anticipated event is again scheduled for Draughn High School in Valdese, N.C. pending school calendars. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. and assembly will be begin at 8:30 a.m. Classes will be begin at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 3:30 p.m. The cost for the one-day event is $18.00 for Scouts and those adults taking classes. The fee includes lunch, teaching materials for the day and a patch.
MBU is an opportunity to learn from professionals and experts in a variety of fields. It is not intended to be an easy way to be given a merit badge but rather a well-earned experience. To earn a badge at MBU will require scouts to participate fully and each scout must complete all requirements to earn a merit badge. To download a list of classes offered at MBU as well as a list of prerequisite requirements that need to be completed BEFORE attending MBU click the link below.

Yearly Permission Form A new yearly permission form is available on the downloads page. You will need to fill this form out once and it will be good for all activities for the entire year January 2012 to December 2012. There are two files you can download. The first one is a Word document that is interactive and will allow you to type in your information and print it out. The other file is a PDF that you will print out and fill in manually. Please have this yearly permission form turned in to me ASAP no later than January 2, 2012.
